The UHL-X40 is a new ultra-compact box style UHD/HD 3CMOS multi-purpose box camera tailored for broadcasting applications based on the outline of the famous UHL-F4000 camera that was designed with a strong focus on helicopter and aerial applications.
The UHL-X40 consists of two parts, the lightweight and low power consuming broadcast quality camera head plus the compact CCU-X40. The low weight of the camera head (only 1.1kg) allows the use of a Pan & Tilt head with a low payload, thus saving installation space and budget. The camera head measures only 120 x 128 x 89 mm and is powered externally with 12V DC (only 28 Watts). It connects with the CCU-X40 via dual single mode fiber cables to cover a distance of up to 10km. The compact CCU-X40 includes the digital processing part and all the interfaces to the conventional broadcast eco system.

Compact Size
The camera head measures only 120 x 128 x 89 mm and its weight is 1.1 kg (w/o lens). The CCU-X40 only measures 145 x 145 x 173 mm with a weight of about 2.6 kg.
Global Shutter CMOS Sensor with high sensitivity
The newly developed global shutter 4K/UHD CMOS sensors provide an outstanding performance:
Standard Sensitivity: F11 @ 2160p 50
Signal-to-noise ratio: 62dB.
Full HDR Support (High Dynamic Range)
The camera provides an HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) mode conforming to ITU-R BT.2100 which is an international standard for High Dynamic Range. HDR enables the UHL-X40 to deliver superbly detailed picture quality across the full range of brightness levels from deep black to peak white. With it's wide color gamut (BT2020), the camera also captures rich colors.
OVC (Optical Vignetting Correction)
The UHL-X40 includes automatic Vignetting correction and F stop ramping compensation for the zoom lens, minimizing dark corners and overall loss of light when the lens in tele position and the iris wide open.
Simultaneous HD Output
The simultaneous HD output at the CCU can be either a down-conversion of the entire viewing angle of the UHD image or an extraction to a 1920x1080 HD window of an area of interest within a fixed 4K/UHD image. With the HD cutout function, CCU feeds the two images with different viewing angles simultaneously.
Digital Zoom Function
The UHL-X40 features a digital zoom function from 1.1x to 10.0x in increments of 0.1 steps, allowing a very smooth and natural zoom. Combined with the optical zoom, the overall zooming of the image looks more natural.
The Digital Zoom function is accessible only via the camera menu or the optional remote controller RM-71F.
Image Sharpening Function
The Image Sharpening Function boosts the edge levels of the image, e.g. when zoomed in. This function can be effective when shooting a car license plate.
Optical Fiber Connection
Connection from camera head to CCU-X40 is made by standard duplex SM (single mode) fiber cables, carrying the uncompressed 4K/UHD video signals plus a 1000Base-T Ethernet trunk channel. As such, PTZ control commands, script data or teleprompter signals can be transmitted simultaneously.
In order to use a single optical cable, an optical circulator can be employed to convert a dual fiber core (TX & RX) to a bidirectional single fiber core cable.
Image Reversal Function
The UHL-X40 can output an up-down reversed image, which is applicable if the camera is mounted upside down.
Focus Assist Function
Focus Assist Function is achieved by placing the edge components of the 4K image on the HD MON OUT signal. Therefore it is possible to critically focus 4K images using an HD monitor.
Ethernet Trunk Line
An Ethernet Trunk line is available between camera head and CCU. Using this line enables a controller on the CCU side at a distant location to send commands to a peripheral device such as a Pan & Tilt Head.
AVC (Auto Video-Level Control) Function
The AVC (Auto Video-Level Control) Function allows the camera to maintain a constant video level by automatically controlling ND filter position, IRIS, gain, and shutter speed.
ATW (Auto Tracking White balance) Function
The UHL-X40 features ATW (Auto Tracking White Balance) in addition to one-push AWB. ATW Function makes it possible to automatically adjust white balance when shooting outside with varying color temperature.
